SIEVERS EQUIPMENT COMPANY: THE TRUSTED PROVIDER OF JCB EQUIPMENT, PARTS, ATTACHMENTS, AND SERVICES
Sievers Equipment Company has been a trusted provider of high-quality agricultural and construction equipment, parts, attachments, and services since 1971. Walter and Ruth Sievers founded the company and, together with their sons, Gary and Jim, decided to sell their herd and start selling tractors when Allis Chalmers approached them to open an equipment dealership. Today, Sievers Equipment Co. is a family-owned and operated business with the third generation of Sievers family members actively involved in the company’s daily operations.
THE HISTORY OF SIEVERS EQUIPMENT COMPANY
The first Sievers Equipment Co. location was in Edwardsville, IL. However, as the business grew rapidly, a new facility was needed, leading to the purchase of ground near the intersection of Interstate 55 and Route 140 in Hamel, IL. A brand new building was erected on this same property in 1975, which continues to be the dealership’s current location. In 1978, the Steiger line of 4wd articulated tractors was added to the product offering to complement Allis Chalmers farm equipment.
The 1980s proved to be a hard time for the agricultural industry and many ag manufacturers, including Allis Chalmers, which was forced to sell out to Deutz-Fahr in 1985. Around the same time, Sievers Equipment Co. had the opportunity to acquire the International Harvester dealer contract, just as IH was merging with J.I. Case to form a new company: Case IH. This acquisition gave Sievers Equipment Co. a new flagship line in Case IH, which remains the dealership’s core agricultural brand to this day.
In 1982, a new facility in Litchfield, IL, was opened and operated until 1994 when additional Case IH dealer territory was purchased. This led to the erection of a brand new facility in Hillsboro, Illinois. Sievers Equipment Co. stuck with Deutz-Allis through their acquisition by Agco Corporation until 2002 when the dealer contract was dissolved.
In 1996, Case IH unveiled an all-new 4-tracked articulated tractor: the Quadrac, and paired it with Reynolds dirt scrapers, which were also added to the product offering. This gave Sievers Equipment Co. their first entry into the construction market, which was to be immensely successful and firmly established Sievers Equipment Co. in the construction equipment market. Building on this success, a third location was purchased in Greenfield, IL, in 1999.
In June of 2005, Sievers Equipment Co. added the JCB Construction Equipment line to their product offering, giving the dealership the products it needed to support its growing construction customer base.
A TRAGIC DAY IN SIEVERS EQUIPMENT COMPANY HISTORY
On February 9, 2007, around 2:00 pm, the smoke alarms sounded, and a fire broke out above the parts department of Sievers Equipment Co.’s facility in Hamel, IL. By the time employees had a chance to react, it was too late. Within minutes, flames engulfed the entire building and spread to the attached repair shop. By that night, the 35-year-old facility was reduced to rubble and ash. The fire had destroyed the entire main building, leaving only the two unattached repair shops.
New State-of-the-Art Facility
Sievers Equipment Co. experienced a temporary hiatus in operations as clean-up, planning, and construction took place for a brand-new facility. After 18 months of waiting, the new building officially opened its doors on September 22, 2008. The new facility spans over 65,000 square feet and offers many new features and upgrades aimed at providing customers with the highest level of service possible.
Additional Locations
In March of 2010, Sievers Equipment Co. further expanded its reach by acquiring two additional locations in Auburn and Carlinville, Illinois. With the acquisition of these new locations, Sievers Equipment Co. has continued to grow and offer its services to a wider customer base.
Family Business
Since its founding, Sievers Equipment Co. has remained a family-owned and operated business. Not only has the dealership grown over the years, but the family that supports and operates it has grown as well. The third generation of Sievers family members is now actively involved in the business, with Gary’s sons Brian, Greg, and Mark Sievers, along with Jim’s son Tim Sievers, contributing to the daily operations of the company.
JCB of St. Louis
With the addition of JCB of St. Louis, Sievers Equipment Co. now offers its customers an even wider range of services and products. The new location in St. Peters, MO offers new and used JCB equipment, rentals, parts, repair, and maintenance services, all backed by the same level of expertise and customer service that customers have come to expect from Sievers Equipment Co.
Sievers Equipment Co. has come a long way since its inception as a family-owned and operated business. With a new state-of-the-art facility, additional locations in Illinois, and the new addition of JCB of St. Louis, the dealership continues to expand and offer its customers the best possible service and products. The third generation of Sievers family members is now actively involved in the daily operations of the company, ensuring that the family legacy and commitment to quality service continue for years to come.
